Q. How soon should I book my Hair and Make Up?

A. I would recommend booking the Hair and Make up as soon as you have your date and venue. I take bookings 18 months to 2 years in advance with Saturdays in the summer going first however this pattern is changing every year with couples deciding to get married later on in the year. I am only available for one wedding per day which obviously limits my availability and my diary is usually fully booked 9 - 12 months in advance. However, sometimes I do have last minute availability so the best thing to do is drop me a line and I will get back to you as soon as I can. 

Q. What brands do you use? 

A. As an independent artist I am not associated with any particular brand. This means I carry a variety of brands and can provide honest, impartial advice as I am not looking for a "big sell". You will see names such as Nars, MAC, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Make Up Geek, Charlotte Tilbury, Too Faced, Illamasqua, Urban Decay, Clinique, Benefit, Bobbi Brown and Zoeva to name a few... One of my favourite aspects of being a Make-Up Artist is discovering and trying out new products and brands so my kit is constantly growing and expanding. 

Q. How long advance do you suggest holding a trial and when are they carried out?

In an ideal world I would suggest that the trial is held around 6 weeks before the wedding day as this ensure that the hair and skin are in the same condition and length as it will be on the day. I do have a number of International clients who may only be able to make a trial appointments a few days in advance of the wedding and this is no problem at all. My trial appointments take place Wednesday - Friday as weekends are reserved for wedding appointments. 

Q. How much time do you require on the day?

Make up usually takes around 45 mins for the bride and 30 - 40 mins for other members of the bridal party. Hair ups generally take around 45mins to 1 hour and blow dries are approx 25 to 30 mins. Trial times may vary slightly as there is usually a lot of talking and questions being asked as well as note taking. 

Q. How do I secure my date/appointment? 

The first step would to be to complete the enquiry form with as much information as possible.  Once this has been received and if there is availability a personalised quote will be sent out. If you wish to proceed and book the date then a £40 deposit should be paid via the details on the quote. Once this is received your date is secure and you will receive a confirmation email and some more information on the next steps. 

Q. Do you have a minimum booking policy?

Due to demand there is a minimum policy of four persons for Saturday wedding bookings. 

Q. Do you work Sundays?

Yes! I try to limit Sunday bookings to between the hours of 9am and 1pm so I can spend a bit of time with my family, however if I am not available another one of my team will be. 

Q. What areas do you cover and how far do you travel?

I usually attend weddings in St Andrews, Fife, Dundee, Perthshire and central Scotland however I do not have a limit on how far I travel. I openly welcome destination weddings (I don't get out much haha) For locations over 2 hours away I would require overnight accommodation as I usually begin bridal prep between 8 and 9am. 

Q. What time will you arrive on the day?

I like to have hair and make up complete 1 hour before departure time as I believe that should be a time for family, drinking champagne, dressing and a few photos - all of which take longer than you think. I will send over a bridal schedule around a week before the wedding day and within that I take into consideration setting up, interruptions and other unexpected events. 

Q. Can I book a hair package only?

Unfortunately not, we only accept make-up only bookings. Hair has to be booked alongside make-up. However if the majority of your party require hair and make-up you may book hair only for certain members such as Mothers of the Bride etc. 

Q. Does everyone require a trial?

Not at all, although it is always useful to meet the bridal party and it makes quite a fun and girly afternoon it is really only the bride that requires a trial. In some very exceptional cases I have carried out bridal make up without a trial however I like to give myself more time on the day if that would be the case. I do suggest that anyone with specific allergies or sensitive skin books in for a trial. 

Q. Will my make-up last?

Yes! I can say quite confidently that your make up should last all day and night long. The products I choose are selected because of their ability to perform for long periods of wear and able to withstand both tears, Scottish weather and ceilidh dancing. I do suggest that you have a pressed powder or blotting sheet near you in case of shine and also a lipstick or lipgloss. We do also provide a Pop Up Beauty Bar to hire for the evening reception. This can be used by yourself and your wedding guest for unlimited trips during the booking time. Please have a read of my Facebook reviews for some real life testimonials. 

Q. Can you cater for larger parties?

Yes we can, as we are a team of stylist and artist no number is too big. We normally bring extra hands for bookings of 6 or more people and have had parties as large as 16. 

Q. I am unsure of what look I want to go for, can you help?

Yes of course. I normally suggest you have a look through pinterest, bridal blogs and wedding magazines to find some looks that you like but the team will be on hand at your trial to discuss and suggest ideas that are suited to your skin tone, dress and other elements of your wedding. For example if you are having a fairly relaxed barn style wedding we would normally suggest you reflect this in your hair and make up with a less structured hair style and softer make up. 

Q. I never normally wear make up and I am a bit apprehensive?

Please do not worry - we do normally suggest professional make up application as it can make such a huge difference in your wedding photographs but this doesn't mean you have to have it caked on by any means. I will use my skills and expertise to create a make up look that you are happy and more importantly comfortable with. Make Up shouldn't change what you look like, just enhance the beauty that is already there. 

Q. Do I need to provide anything?

Not really, all we require is a bit of space - ideally a table near a window and a power outlet Our hair stylist carry extension cables and make up artist usually bring their own chairs. 

Q. Help! Me or a member of the party has very sensitive skin, can I still get my make-up done?

Yes you can. We use very high end brands which contain quality ingredients so they shouldn't react to your skin to much. If you or another member has sensitive skin we do suggest a trial. We can also use your own make-up that you know you don't react to.

Q. Do I deal with a specific person with my booking?

Sophie will be the main point of contact for your booking however if you have booked with other members of the team they will contact you to arrange trials etc after the deposit has been paid.
